I love audio drama: the landscapes are more vivid, the characters deeper, the special effects more amazing, the stories more meaningful…

And the best of them tell a damn good story, too!

I consume a lot of media, most of which is podcasts, music or radio — audio, in one form or another. I find a lot of great stuff out there, and I listen to as much as I can. Unfortunately, that sometimes means that things have to wait a while before I get back to them.

In particular, audio dramas and audio novels can wait years before I get back to them, which is a real shame. I don’t usually participate in the original run fan push, don’t usually know about stuff until a few years later, when I (re-)discover it and consume it greedily.

On the plus side, this allows me to mainline it, consume it all gluttonously and in short succession. I do this with television series, books, and audio drama.

The latest of these bacchanals was the incredible Dixie Stenberg and The Brassy Battalion, by Pendant Audio.

Actually, to give its long and proper title: Umket Presents: Dixie Stenberg and The Brassy Battalion Adventure Theatre, a Pendant Production.

Sea of Stars audio drama

I am a terrible self-marketer, partially out of a natural humility which does not allow me to crow about success, and partially out of a naturally swiss-cheese memory, which does not allow me to remember when I should be proud of something..

The final episode of the Sea of Stars: A Voyage of the Space Cruiser Argo audio drama is about to be dropped! This work is a miniseries fan sequel to the very popular anime Star Blazers, and it’s quite an ambitious project. I am the voice of the omniscient narrator of the story.

I recorded my lines last year (for the most part), but now that the project has finally arrived (and almost gone!), I remember to post about it.

Better late than never!

I was very happy to be part of this production. I love doing voicework, and would love to do plenty more! If you have a project you’d like me to contribute my voice to, just drop me a line.

This summer, I am lined up to do a small VO gig as a news announcer for a local short film, as well as adding more episodes to Wandering Out Loud and starting up the more formal Understanding Podcasting podcast and blog.

I’ll be traveling this summer, but I’ve picked up a Zoom H2 portable recorder to make it easier. I’m looking forward to recording a few things on the road.
